(WHAS11) - Ford's Louisville Assembly Plant could be home to a wider variety of vehicle production that originally thought.

People familiar with the plan told WHAS11 last week of three vehicles intended for the Fern Valley Road facility, the Mercury Mariner, Ford Escape, and the European crossover, the Kuga.

Automotive News is reporting that the 2012 Ford Escape will be a version of the Kuga. The industry publication also reports that secondary production of the Ford Focus will be in Louisville and a compact van called the Transit Connect will be built here.

Meanwhile, Automotive News is reporting that the Explorer Sport Trac pick-up made in Louisville will be discontinued in 2010.
