Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - The lawyer for Coach Rick Pitino is responding to a police complaint filed by Karen Sypher.
Sypher filed a criminal complaint against Pitino with LMPD's sex-offense division last week and Commonwealth Attorney Dave Stengel is expected to have the complaint sent to him this week.
In a statement, Pitino's attorney, Steve Pence, says:
"Karen Sypher is under federal indictment for attempted extortion and lying to the FBI. Her recent allegations to the Louisville Metro Police Department are false and just another part of the fraud she has tried to perpetrate against coach Pitino and his family. Facing federal charges, she is now attempting to create a defense. Coach Pitino has been interviewed by LMPD, is cooperating with their investigation and has passed an independent polygraph examination refuting Karen Sypher's allegations. He will continue to cooperate with federal and state authorities in their investigation and prosecution of Karen Sypher."
The exact allegations by Sypher against Pitino have not been released by authorities.
Pitino admitted there was an encounter with Sypher several years ago but has admitted no wrongdoing.
A judge has not yet determined when Sypher's trial on extortion charges will be.
