Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - Several General Electric employees have called WHAS11 News claiming that GE's Appliance Park has already been sold.

GE says that isn't the case.

The company confirms that potential buyers will be touring the Louisville plant within the next few weeks, but a spokeswoman says it is still considering two options; a spin off or a sale.

WHAS11 News caught up with Jim Campbell, the CEO of GE's appliance division, at Wayside Christian Mission.

About 700 GE employees volunteered their time to spruce up the Wayside Christian Mission facility.

They welded bike racks, built bunk beds, and cleaned up some toys.

Campbell did not want to comment about those sale rumors. He told WHAS11 news that everyone's focus was on helping Wayside.

Campbell also said this economy has significantly hurt the appliance industry and slowed business down at GE dramatically in the last year or so.

A spinoff of the appliance business would put it in the hands of shareholders and would be run by the current local GE executives.
