WHAS11) - The president of the Kentucky senate is calling for a statewide smoking ban.

David Williams announced his proposal Monday night on Kentucky educational television's "Kentucky Tonight".

Williams says a statewide smoking ban will reduce the number of smokers in Kentucky.

Governor Steve Beshear has proposed a 30-cent-per-pack cigarette tax hike, as a way to boost public health and ease Kentucky's money woes.

A new study released by the American Lung Association finds both Kentucky and Indiana are flunking out when it comes to tobacco and health.
