(WHAS11) - A new study shows the way swine flu multiplies in the respiratory system is much more severe than the seasonal flu.

Tests done in monkeys, mice and ferrets at the University of Wisconsin show the swine flu thrives in greater numbers all over the respiratory system, including the lungs, and causes lesions instead of staying in the head like the regular flu.

Researchers say these results make them much more concerned about swine flu.
