(WHAS11) - The Louisville Zoo is keeping a close eye on its new baby giraffe after Bakari was born February 17th. But zookeepers noticed that he wasn't able to stand on his own.
Since he's not able to stand to feed, the zoo had to transfer plasma into Bakari to protect his immunity system, then bottle-fed him. The zoo says Bakari is improving, but calls this a critical time.
Veterinarians are trying to determine why the six-foot-two, 150-pound baby giraffe has trouble standing on his own.
