LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Health officials say flu cases are on the rise in Louisville and across Kentucky.
Dr. Matthew Zahn tells The Courier-Journal of Louisville that area hospitals are reporting an increase in flu cases in the past two weeks. Zahn is medical director of Louisville's public health department.
Louisville's health department reports 16 confirmed cases of influenza this season. That reflects a larger trend because most sufferers don't get tested.
Statewide, 75 confirmed cases of flu have been reported this season. That puts Kentucky in the second-highest of categories defined by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Norton Healthcare's Immediate Care Centers have had a big increase in people coming in with flulike symptoms. But some other Louisville hospitals have seen only a few patients with flu.
