LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- A woman accused of trying to extort millions from Louisville men's basketball coach Rick Pitino has entered a not guilty plea in federal court in Louisville.
Karen Cunagin Sypher was arraigned Wednesday afternoon on charges of trying to extort money from Pitino and lying to the FBI. The estranged wife of a longtime Pitino aide was indicted Tuesday.
Sypher's attorney, Thomas Clay, entered the not guilty plea during the brief hearing, and the trial was set for June 29.
Sypher was greeted at the federal courthouse by a small group of supporters who accompanied her to the courtroom.
The case became public last month when Pitino released a statement saying someone had tried to extort him.
