Louisville, Ky. (WHAS11) - If you are one of thousands who have recently lost their job, you may be wondering what's out there for you and if you qualify for unemployment benefits?

If you have just lost your job, the first thing you should do is sign up for unemployment insurance. More than likely you are eligible. To qualify, you have to have lost your job through no fault of your own.

10,000 people came through the Workforce Development Center in downtown Louisville last month looking for help.

On a normal month they would see maybe 6,000 people.

In Kentucky you can collect a maximum of $415 dollars a week from unemployment but in Indiana it's a little bit less.

If your company gave you a severance package when you were laid off it will be a case by case basis whether or not you can still collect an unemployment check.

As for the amount of time that you can collect unemployment, right now with your initial claim it is 26 weeks.

Those with the One Stop Career Centers in Louisville say it's never too late to learn new skills to help with your next job.

There are places that are hiring in Louisville.

The Census Bureau is getting ready for their 2010 assessment and they are hiring for a variety of positions and so is a company called Associate Computer Services?
