Louisville Ky., (WHAS11) - The city of Louisville is tightening its purse strings to offset a $20 million budget shortfall.
That means some library services have been cut but the University of Louisville is trying to help fill the gap.
If you tried to go to your local library Sunday, you would have been out of luck. City-wide the libraries will now be closed on Sundays because of those budget cuts. But it doesn't mean you don't have a place to go.
The University of Louisville's library is open and free to the public. Anyone 14 and older can use the libraries.
The city says closing its libraries on Sundays will save them $3.4 million dollars.
Today, he presented a $120 million dollar plan to council members, scaled down from the original $200 million dollar plan, thanks to budget cuts.
Craig Buthod says, "This plan is smaller than the original plan. We have reduced the scope. We have identified projects that we could do early on that would not have a big impact on the operating budget and we have pushed further out the cost and capital intensive projects like the regional libraries."
