The former Heath High school Student who gunned down fellow students in Paducah in 1997, is asking Kentucky's Supreme Court for a second chance.

Michael Carneal, who is now 25 years old, claims he was too mentally ill to plead guilty in 1998.

Carneal shot eight classmates; three of them died.

He is serving a sentence of life without parole for at least 25 years for the 1997 shooting that happened when he was 14 years old.

The Kentucky Supreme Court is scheduled to hear arguments in the case about a new competency hearing and trial on September 11 at the University of Louisville Law School.
