(WHAS11) - WHAS11 News is showing you how to take charge of your life and be your own boss.

WHAS11 News met with Aimee Rhea, a mother from Fairdale who has found a way to support herself by selling chocolate.

"I like to sample a chocolate covered almond. This is some delicious fruit dip made from our chai tea," says Aimee Rhea, independent chocolatier.

Aimee Rhea isn't just talking about foods she enjoys, she's talking about her new business, one she started last October.

After being unemployed for several months, she decided it was time to find a new job but this time she created her own position, working from home selling chocolate.

With the help of the Dove Chocolate Discoveries Program, Aimee hosts chocolate parties at homes throughout the city.

Here's how it works: people ask Aimee to come to their home with her chocolate. She brings all of the chocolate products she sells and lets people sample the items. If they like something, they have the opportunity to buy it at the end of the party.

Aimee says she hosts about six to eight parties a month, with sales averaging about $400 at each party.

It costs $149 to purchase the starter kit from Dove Chocolate Discoveries.

Aimee estimates that it costs her about $15 every time she hosts a party, but says she easily makes that money back in sales.
