Spring break camps replacing vacations in tough economic times

With our economic situation in a rut, spring break options have really changed from the typical trip down south.

John and Barbara Rice have their hands full this week with their grandchildren, Nick and Caroline, because these grandparents are the spring break destination.

Monday it was the ropes course at the Louisville Zoo but Tuesday, who knows?

And they're not alone; young spring breakers made Monday look a lot more like a Saturday.

Sky 11 caught plenty of others around town taking in the sunshine at Waterfront Park or knocking one in at a putt-putt course.

For kids without a full-time chaperone, Zoo Camp fills the void of fun with a little learning too.

They get to be around all the animals and do arts and crafts.

And what says spring break like being swarmed by tropical birds?

The Jewish Community Center is being swarmed too.

With parents needing to fill their kids' week, spring break camps are filling up fast.
