LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Each October for the last 21 years, we celebrate the Rose Awards in Louisville.
More than 600 guests and tourism professionals gathered at the Downtown Marriott for the Louisville Convention & Visitors Bureau awards, including many who never get recognition.
Rose is short for recognition of service excellence and the award celebrates unsung heroes who work day in and day out. They sometimes clean 18-20 rooms a day or are room service waiters or busboys, but they are always the folks who tourists touch but don't always see.
For the fifth year, WHAS11's Joe Arnold emceed the Rose Awards.
The travel and tourism industry is the third largest service industry in Louisville, supporting 31,000 jobs and creating an economic impact of $1.4 billion with 12.7 million visitors annually.
