HARRISON COUNTY, Ind. (WHAS11) -- Two young men accused of killing Harrison County couple in August 2013 may now face the death penalty.

Austin Scott and Kevin Schuler appeared before a judge Friday in a court room crowded with family members of both the victims and the accused.

Scott and Schuler pleaded not guilty in connection with the brutal murders of Gary Henderson and Asenath Arnold. Police said the two entered the couple's Greenville home through an unlocked door and brutally killed Henderson and Arnold. Police also said the suspects stole prescription pills, credit cards and guns from the home.

Scott and Schuler were offered a plea deal - life in prison without parole, but prosecutors said Friday that deal is now off the table after lawyers for Scott and Schuler said it is too premature to discuss a deal.

Prosecutors now say the will officially file for the death penalty in the case against both defendants.

Scott's murder trial was scheduled to begin March 31, but the judge allowed for a continuance and both men are set to return to court April 25.

As Austin Scott left court room one of his supporters shouted, "I love you, Austin."

Scott's mother declined to make a statement on camera but said, "My heart goes out to the victims - we lost someone, too."
