Arrest made in attacks near UofL

LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) – On Friday, Sept. 16, the Louisville Metro Police Department made an arrest in connection to two sexual assaults that happened last week in the Old Louisville area, near UofL.

A 16-year-old was taken into custody and was charged with two counts of sodomy, robbery, kidnapping and one count of arson.

The assaults happened in the areas of 3rd at Gaulbert and 7th at Shipp, near The Bellemy Apartments.

Police say a woman was carjacked and sexually assaulted on 3rd Street and Gaulbert Avenue on Monday, Sept. 12, and a female student was held at gunpoint and sexually assaulted on 7th Street and Shipp Avenue on Tuesday, Sept. 13.

"Both of these are in close proximity of the University of Louisville. One of these victims, to our knowledge, is not a UofL student, and the other one is," Tony Gibson, LMPD Sex Crimes Unit, said.

LMPD says they are continuing their investigation.
