BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WHAS11)- A weekend train derailment that sent about 35 rail cars loaded with coal off the tracks in southern Indiana could cost up to $2.5 million to clean up.

Indiana railroad spokesman, Chris Rund, says those costs would include removing the wrecked cars and spilled coal from Sunday’s derailment near Bloomington, and rebuilding damaged track and a railroad crossing.

There has been no official word on what caused the derailment, but the train's conductor says extreme heat may have played a factor.
