(WHAS 11) -- One person was wounded in a shooting outside a St. Matthews cafe early Friday morning.

That shooting happened outside Merdian Cafe at 112 Meridian Avenue around 3:15. The female victim then ran to Saints Pub, which shares a back parking lot with Meridian Cafe, for help.

According to police, two black men approached the woman, engaged her in conversation and then demanded she hand over her purse.  The men then allegedly pistol-whipped her and shot her in the arm.

Police believe the two men then fled in a silver sedan.

Police said the woman did not know the two men.

“I'm just blow away because stuff like this doesn't typically happen in St. Matthews," said Chad Donohue, an employee of a St. Mathews business.

"I'm very surprised, yet not surprised they seem to be getting more and more bolder and getting wherever they want to," said resident Denise Johnson.

The female victim was rushed to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

If you have any information about this shooting, call 574-LMPD.
