Kentuckiana events honor 9/11 anniversary

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – As the nation prepares to honor the 15th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, the following events are taking place this Sunday throughout Kentuckiana:

Wall Street United Methodist Church Worship Ceremony
Wall Street United Methodist Church is hosting a special worship service to mark the 15th anniversary of 9/11 by recognizing and blessing local heroes, including Clark and Floyd county firefighters and police officers. A meal will follow the service.

Bullitt County 9/11 Observance
On Sunday, Sept. 11, from 2-5 p.m., “A Time for Praise, Prayer and Patriotism” will be held outside the county courthouse. In this remembrance of 9/11, all first responders, veterans and all elected officials are invited to participate.

Campbellsville Law Enforcement Appreciation
Calvary Baptist Church is having a Law Enforcement Appreciation Day on September 11 in order to honor the 15th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks.

Kentucky Veterans Cemetery, Kentucky September 11th Memorial
The new Kentucky September 11th Memorial at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central will be dedicated in a ceremony at 2 p.m. Sunday. Black granite walls contain the names of all Kentucky service members who have lost their lives overseas since Sept. 11, 2001. The memorial is comprised of a cross-shaped steel beam recovered from the World Trade Center rubble standing atop a granite pillar.

Shelbyville First Baptist Church First Responders Appreciation
The Shelbyville First Baptist Church will hold a special worship to honor and pray for the first responders in our county. First responders are encouraged to come in uniform, as various branches of service will be recognized in the service.

Salute to Heroes Tribute Concert
Ft. Knox Garrison Commander Colonel Steve Aiton and his staff will be in attendance at the 9/11 Salute to Heroes Tribute Concert at Fourth Street Live. Local country music bands will perform alongside Alison Bray. The concert will honor first responders and members of the military on the 15th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks. The event is free but you must sign up to attend here
