Police chase starts in Bullitt County

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A police chase that started at a gas station in Bullitt County has ended near Churchill Downs.
A man and woman allegedly robbed the Valero convenience store on Hwy. 245 in Bullitt County around 4:20 a.m. Monday.
Police said the female suspect, 30-year-old Lauren Baker of Louisville, was waiting in a silver pick up truck while the male suspect, 29-year-old Jeffrey Dawson of Louisville, went inside and robbed the store. According to witness statements, Dawson told the cashier he had a weapon and demanded money.
The couple the left the scene and led police along Interstate 65 into Louisville before stopping in an alley behind 2nd and Florence streets.
An Louisville Metro Police officer's car was rammed during the pursuit, police said, and the officer was transported to the hospital to be checked out. The male suspect was also taken to the hospital but is now behind bars at the Bullitt County Detention Center. Both the officer and the suspect suffered non life-threatening injuries.
Investigators said they did not find any weapons on the suspects or in the truck. However, police did say the suspects may have thrown the weapon from the truck during the chase.
Baker is charged with complicity to robbery, fleeing/evading police, assault on a peace officer, wanton endangerment and criminal mischief.
Dawson is charged with robbery.
