BULLITT COUNTY, Ky. (WHAS11) – The Bullitt County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the murder of a woman shot near Kentucky Hwy. 44 near Dixie Hwy. on Friday evening.

Don’esha McStoots, 21, received a single gunshot wound to the torso. We’re told McStoots was conscious and alert when she flagged down the owner of the popular Knob Creek Gun Range around 6:40 p.m.

McStoots told the owner, Kenny Sumner, she’d been shot, and collapsed a short time later.

Sumner told WHAS 11’s Brooke Hasch he decided to transport McStoots to the hospital himself, in fear of waiting too long for emergency responders. Sumner says McStoots lost consciousness before they arrived at Southwest Hospital, in Louisville, where she later died. Her last known address is listed in Louisville.

Detectives are still working the case and we will bring you any new information when it becomes available.
