LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)- An abandoned home in Old Louisville has neighbors complaining about a foul smell due to the foul coming from the home. WHAS11 found out it is not just the smell but rats and mice found in the home.
At 415 East Ormsby, WHAS11 crews saw dozens, maybe hundreds of rodents.
A group of Old Louisville residents say they first noticed the smell about two months ago.
Having not seen the home’s tenant, neighbors got curious when utility workers came to shut off the buildings power. Property Management of Louisville rents the home, so neighbor Hannah Jackson called the company.
"He said I’m going to hate to have to send somebody in here to do this clean up and that was about two weeks ago," said Jackson.
Brian Stocker with Property Management of Louisville says they have unsuccessfully tried to contact the tenant. Stocker says the group is following the necessary legal steps to get the situation taken care of.
Jim Mims with the City Department Codes and Regulations says the property has been cited, and that the city will start working immediately with the property owner to get this mess inside this home cleaned up.
Mims also said with the specifics of this case, Property Management of Louisville could go into the home at any time and clean up.
