(WHAS11)-A local organization that helps in the fight against child obesity says a Louisville businessman has thousands of their dollars and they want it back.
The group called Trainers for Kids hired the businessman to hold a charity event.
The event was eventually cancelled and Trainers for Kids wants its money back.
The non-profit organization is in two Louisville schools and their goal is to educate kids and parents on the dangers of child obesity.
Dan Horton with Trainers for Kids says, “70% of obese children become obese adults.”
To maximize that education, Horton needs to get the program into more schools.
To do that, they need more funding.
So in 2008, Trainers for Kids hired PI Development Group to hold a golf scramble fundraiser event at Oxmoor Country Club.
David Judd, PI Development group’s Vice President, runs the company’s Louisville office.
Horton says Judd was in charge of the event, planned for August 10, 2009 and a contract was signed.
In it- PI Development said it would provide Trainers for Kids with services consisting of all aspects of planning and conducting the Trainers for Kids Golf Scramble.
Horton says Trainers for Kids gave Judd $4,000 out of the $5,000 he was charging to run the event.
However, the scramble never happened.
Horton says 3 days before the event Judd cancelled because there weren’t enough teams-
“We did not have the golf scramble and we were promised to get the money back according to the contract and we have not received that money,” says Horton.
According to the contract, Trainers for Kids should have got back $3,000 out of the $4,000 paid for PI Development Groups services, plus $2,000 in donations Horton says Judd got weeks before the event.
Horton sent numerous e-mails, text messages and voicemails to David Judd asking for the money.
WHAS11 called David Judd last week.
He admitted he owed Trainers for Kids over $5,000.
His response to why he hadn’t paid…he assumed someone else in his company had taken care of the reimbursement.
Judd said the check would be in Horton’s hands by last Thursday. It wasn’t.
Without the money, Trainers for Kids can only afford to stay in the two schools it’s in.
Horton believes his organization is hurting but believes the biggest victim is the kids.
According to Horton, “This is causing less kids to receive free training.”
In the e-mail it says Judd’s corporate office sent a check to Judd to pay Trainers for Kids. Judd says he deposited it but the bank has now put a hold on the funds.
Judd also said in the e-mail that he would again try to pay as soon as possible, but Horton says he’s heard this before.
