(WHAS11) State Representative Ed Delany is recovering at an Indianapolis hospital after a brutal beating Saturday night.
The 66-year-old is also an attorney and was meeting with a prospective client just north of Indianapolis when police say he was beaten.
38-year-old Augustus Mendenhall has been charged in the attack.
Mendenhall is the son of a man who tried to lease land for an adult bookstore in the 80's.
Delany was one of the attorneys who worked against the lease.
Delany's family believes that may have been the reason for the attack.
