Metro Police are still on the lookout for a white Pontiac minivan that they say hit and killed a woman in the Highlands Friday evening.
It happened outside Gilda's Club, which is a resource center for cancer patients and their families. Friends say Nuril Papapietro, 37, goes by "Dini."
They say she was leaving the Club after a Thanksgiving Potluck dinner on Friday night; she's part of the club because someone in her family has been diagnosed with cancer.
That is when she was hit by the vehicle while crossing the street.
Police say Papapietro tripped or stumbled into the street, an oncoming truck swerved to avoid her but the minivan behind the truck hit her and threw her in the street.
She died about an hour later at University Hospital from multiple blunt force trauma. Witnesses say the driver of the minivan never stopped.
Police suspect the white van has significant front-end damage. If you have any information, call LMPD's anonymous tip line at 574-LMPD.
