LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)-  A man claims he feels embarrassed to work out at the Dixie Highway Urban Active because he says nearly every time he showers, there is a woman inside the locker room watching.

The woman in question is a custodian, and the gym says she has to be in the men's locker room often for health reasons.

No one is disputing the fact that a woman is cleaning the men's locker room daily.

What is in question is whether or not members are adequately alerted before she goes inside.

Josh Williams says he encountered a woman holding a mop, bucket and spray bottle while he stood there wearing nothing at all.

He says it happened on at least four occasions when he went to work out at the gym.

“Most people tend to cover up when she comes in,” said Williams. “I find it unnerving for her to come in when I'm changing, so I tend to stay covered up when she comes in.”

Williams says one time the woman even snuck up on him while he was using a urinal.

“While you're using the bathroom, she is just standing there, mopping the floor right next to you,” said Williams.

Williams is not the only person to notice.

“It just seems weird that she has to be in there,” said another Urban Active Member who did not want to be identified.

Urban Active’s manager on duty said that the custodian is needed a lot during the day.

“She places a sign in a holder right outside the locker room and she goes in and does her work. We have to have her in the mornings and in the evenings with as much traffic as we get,” said Urban Active’s manager on duty.

However, Williams says that there are no signs and nothing is ever posted.

Williams said he has asked for his membership to be canceled, but that Urban Active will not let him out of his contract.

Therefore, Williams has filed formal complaints with the Better Business Bureau and the Kentucky Attorney General's Office.

Urban Active currently has an "F" rating with the Better Business Bureau, after receiving 173 complaints in the last three years.

Williams says he is speaking out to try and warn others.

“It would not happen the other way around. If they were to send a man into the women's locker room to clean at the busiest time of day, it wouldn't happen more than once or they would have been slapped with a lawsuit by now,” said Williams.

WHAS11 asked Urban Active if they would consider hiring a man to clean the men's room, but they said they hire an outside contractor, and all of the employees assigned to the Dixie Highway location happen to be women.
