GREENWOOD, Ind. (AP) -- An Indiana man who was down on his luck is behind bars after police say he tried to rob a bank, then felt guilty and waited with the teller for police to arrive.
Greenwood police tell The Indianapolis Star that Steve Thau of Camby was arrested Wednesday morning after police received reports of a robbery in progress.
Thau told police he "worked up the nerve" to rob the Chase Bank branch after losing his job and seeing his house placed in foreclosure.
Police say he gave a teller a note demanding money and the teller started to cry. Thau then told her to push the alarm button and promised to wait for police.
Thau faces a robbery charge and is being held in the Johnson County Jail.
