UTICA, Ind. (WHAS11) --There was a tense situation on a barge in the Ohio River in Utica, Ind. about ten miles upriver, across from Harrods Creek in Louisville.
The police and fire departments were called to the scene after an employee on the barge discovered what looked like an explosive device on a cat walk on the upper edge of the barge.
That employee removed it and brought it to land. It was about one foot long, had wax on both ends and there was a wire coming out of one of the ends.
Indiana State Police along with K-9's were called to the scene.
Utica Fire Department Chief Marshal Charles Reven says the device was destroyed.
"They x-rayed it; didn't believe it was a device but they went ahead and destroyed it... not an explosive device what so ever,” Reven said.
Reven said no one was ever in any danger.
