NORTH VERNON, Ind. (AP) -- Authorities say a Seymour woman drowned after her van veered off a road into a pond in southern Indiana.

The Republic reported Monday that authorities identified the woman as 61-year-old Elsie J. Day. The woman phoned 911 and Jennings County sheriff's deputies responded within three minutes, but she was pronounced dead shortly after she was taken to a hospital in Seymour.

Sheriff's deputies say the van was submerged and Day was still trapped inside when they arrived Friday. Sheriff's Department Maj. Jerry Shepherd says Day didn't respond to CPR.
