LOUISVILLE, Ky. (News Release) - Painting of the Indiana approach to the George Rogers Clark Memorial Bridge is underway. Contract crews are currently sand blasting off the old paint and applying the first coat of primer. East Market Street in Jeffersonville, Indiana must be closed for painting the bottom section of the bridge.
East Market Street will be closed between Missouri Avenue and Southern Indiana Avenue. This closure is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, May 8 at 7:00 a.m. and will continue for approximately two weeks.
During this closure, motorists should follow the signed detour via Southern Indiana Avenue, East Riverside Drive and Missouri Avenue.
As the project progresses, some lane or sidewalk closures on the bridge will be necessary. Lane closures will be restricted to evenings from 8:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. the following morning.
The Clark Memorial Bridge carries US 31 across the Ohio River. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) awarded a contract for painting the Indiana approach to G Force Contracting in the amount of $494,494. Construction is scheduled for completion by July 31, 2013.
