RAMSEY, Ind. (WHAS11) -- The peace in the normally peaceful Ramsey was shattered by gunfire Monday morning, May 20.

Police responded to a house on Indiana Highway 64 shortly before 9:30 a.m. after receiving a 911 call.

"We had a Trooper who was really close by and he responded to the scene," Indiana State Police Sgt. Jerry Goodin said. "He came in contact with a female who was on the front porch of the home."

The officer discovered a man inside suffering a gunshot wound.

Rescue workers quickly arrived at the scene, but the victim was already dead.

Neighbors say Kristy Thevenot lives in the home. They say she moved in two years ago, after her grandmother passed away.

Her ex-boyfriend was supposedly at the home earlier Monday morning, repairing a pick-up truck parked behind the house.

"Her and him had a relationship, and I think he moved out about six months ago. I know it was pretty rocky there to the end," neighbor Nancy Nagel said.

Most people we talked to were shocked that violence struck in sleepy Ramsey.

"When I was a kid there was a killing here in Ramsey; I don't know of any other ones," insurance broker Philip Robertson said.

Robertson estimated that the last homicide in the community was nearly a half-century ago.

The Harrison County Prosecutor and Coroner spent the afternoon on the scene, while police executed a search warrant at the home.

"There has not been an arrest, but there is no one who is at large," Goodin said.

An autopsy was scheduled to be performed on the victim, who has not yet been identified.
