LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A second arrest was made in the case relating to the death of an 8-month-old child in Salem, Ind., according to a police report.
According to the report, Indiana State Police detectives arrested the victim’s mother, Casey Crain, around noon on Friday. Crain’s boyfriend, Jamie Lykins, was arrested on September 9.
Crain, 23, has been charged with Neglect of a Dependent, a felony. Lykins has pleaded not guilty to charges of Neglect of a Dependent and Battery Causing Death, according to the report.
The arrests come after Crain found her son unresponsive while taking a nap around 7:00 p.m. Saturday at the subject’s home on Ridgeview Drive in Salem. Crain and Lykins took the child to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Salem, the child was then air-lifted to Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville where it was pronounced dead around 1:40 a.m., according to the police report.
On Sunday, Sept. 8, a autopsy preliminary determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the head. The official cause of death cannot be determined until autopsy results are complete, which typically take six weeks, according to the police report.
Both subjects are being held at the Washington County Jail in Salem.
