JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WHAS11) -- A man behind bars north of Indianapolis is now being charged with arson after a fire in Southern Indiana more than a year ago.

According to police documents, 20-year-old Brandon Bates of Jeffersonville confessed to setting the fire at a barn and garage on Utica Pike in March 2012. An airplane and two vehicles inside the garage were destroyed - causing around $80,000 in damage according to the property owner Roger Coke.

“He left me with quite a mess,” Coke said.

Coke said he did not have insurance on the property and he continues to pick up the pieces of the charred remains.

“I’m just glad they caught the guy,” he said.
Bates was arrested in Anderson, Ind. and police said while he was being questioned about arson cases in that area he admitted to the Clark County fire and to several dumpster fires in Louisville.

According to court documents, Bates posted pictures of the Utica Pike fire on Facebook.

Police said Bates started the Clark County fire due to its calming nature.

Bates will have to face trial in Anderson before he is brought back to Clark County for trial.
