SCOTTSBURG, Ind. (WHAS11) – One person was killed in an accident that closed a partial section of I-65 North near the Scottsburg exit early Sunday evening.

Emergency officials say a Hyundai, driven by 19-year-old Natalie Bomar was going southbound on I-65 and lost control, went over a median, crossing through the barriers into the northbound lanes hitting a truck carrying an enclosed trailer. The truck slid down an embankment and caught fire.

Good Samaritans on the scene were able to extract 62-year-old Sandra Godsave and her 9-year-old grandson from the burning vehicle. Godsave’s husband 62-year-old Dennis, was unable to be saved from the intense fire.

Bomar and Godsave were transported to University Hospital while Godsave’s grandson was taken to Kosair Children’s Hospital.

Police say all three sustained serious injuries and could not determine if any were wearing seatbelts.
