CORYDON, Ind. (WHAS11) -- Families are displaced Friday, Nov. 8, after a massive fire breaks out in Southern Indiana. It happened at the Autumn Ridge Apartments in Corydon early Friday morning.

"First thing I did was grab the dog. I was in pajamas and I was out the door," Debbie King said.

The fire at the Autumn Ridge Apartments in Corydon was spreading so fast Debbie King escaped with her dog and the clothes on her back.

"I just wanted to make sure everyone was out cause the fire was going fast. As I came out my door here the siding was flying over here," King said.

The fire gutted walls and destroyed a number of apartments and affected several families. King says she thinks it took fire officials too long to get there.

"We kept calling back to see if they was still coming. By the time they got here it was all the way back to the front side of the roof," King said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation; specifically where it started.

Neighbors just feel lucky there were no injuries and they were able to get everyone out.

We reached out to the department to see how long it took them and have not heard back. Residents are currently being housed at the local Holiday Inn.
