MARTINSVILLE, Ind. (AP) -- Authorities say three inmates tried to escape from a central Indiana jail by digging a hole through the wall of their cell.
Morgan County Jail officers say they heard noise coming from the cell and found a shallow 6-inch diameter hole in a wall next to an unsecured administration area of the jail in Martinsville.
Guards said they found a loose screw, altered AA batteries and a hinge from the cell door hidden inside the cell.
The three men -- ages 19 to 23 -- are facing attempted escape and other charges.
Officials say it will cost about $700 to fix the wall damage.
