NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WHAS11) -- A horrific scene unfolded late Wednesday afternoon in New Albany. Three bodies were found in Falling Run Creek in Binford Park, two of them were children.
Police say people strolling in the park found the bodies in the water around 5:15 p.m. It was a woman, an adolescent, and a toddler. People living next to the park were shocked when they learned what brought so many rescue vehicles to their neighborhood.
“It’s just so sad, whenever anything like that happens with children and a woman,” Linda Hornung who lives right up the street from the park, said.
Investigators combed the scene, dotting the banks of the creek with evidence markers. At this point, they’re considering the deaths a homicide. But, police couldn’t say how the bodies got into the creek. There didn’t appear to be a car at the park that belonged to them. Police said it was too early to nail down the causes of death.
Police said it was an incredibly rare scene for the area.
“It’s been nine years since we came to this park on a homicide,” Major Keith Whitlow said, “The Alyssa Lee case 9 years ago. We don’t have many cases like this.”
