INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Insurance plans in the coming federal health insurance exchange are expected to run from just under $100 per month for some single adults to close to $1,000 for family of four.

The U.S. Health and Human Services announced rates Wednesday for Indiana and 35 other states that have opted for federal control. A 27-year-old would pay anywhere from $168 for bare-bones, "catastrophic" coverage to $332 for the cheapest of the so-called "gold" plans. Federal tax credits will reduce the costs for low-income adults.

The health insurance exchanges are set to open a six-month enrollment period next week.

The announcement of the rates comes amid an ongoing advertising war between supporters and opponents of the federal health care law.
