JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WHAS11) -- New details have been released about a Jeffersonville house fire that was thought to be the cause of death of a young couple.
According to police, it wasn't the fire that killed 26-year-old Morgan Julius and 27-year-old Courtney Grimm but they were shot to death.
Police said the couple died of gunshot wounds. They also said accelerants were used in the fire and the home was barricaded and locked when they were found dead inside.
Police say the fire was intentionally set and two guns were found in the bathroom...police say they are not looking for other suspects.
In pictures, Morgan Julius and Courtney Grimm, are a smiling, happy young couple. Dating, friends said, for six months when this happened.
Police said they found the couple in the bathroom of a home on Starview Court after a fire ripped through the home Sunday. It was originally believed the fire killed the two, but the coroner said they died of gunshot wounds.
Neighbors said they are still in disbelief.
"Then I heard there was more to it. It's really sad," Theresa Bennett said.
Julius is the son of Jeffersonville City Council member Dennis Julius. His brother, David Julius, is speaking for the family.
"We really don't have any comment at this time. We want people to respect the family's privacy," David said. "Everyone has been sending a lot of prayers and that's what we want people to do. We appreciate everyone's prayers and support."
Courtney's friend, Maggie Weber, has known her since kindergarten.
She said Courtney had hit some bumps in the road in her life recently but would not elaborate. She spoke to us the day of fire.
"We lost somebody that was super, super awesome," she said. "Everybody that she met, everybody immediately fell in love with her."
The police department continues to conduct an investigation into the cause of the couple's deaths..
