HARRISON CO., Ind. (WHAS11) -- We are learning more about the family at the center of what authorities called a shocking neglect case.
9-year-old twins in Southern Indiana were left home alone, locked inside the house, while their mother worked in Indianapolis and now we know one of the children thought their Dad might take them away.
This case happened in Harrison County, Indiana but, WHAS11 did some digging in nearby Floyd County and found out what else may have been going on.
“My mom locked me in because my Dad and he (inaudible) and he wanted to take us. They are in court stuff though,” one of the 9-year-old twins said.
WHAS11 has learned that in the past few months Deborah Van Wormer took out a restraining order on Alan Crampton, the father of the twins.
WHAS11 went to Crampton's apartment to get his side of the story but no one answered.
Vanwormer claims that Crampton physically and mentally abused her and even threatened to kill her.
She says Crampton stalked her at her job in New Albany and she had to disappear for a while and now WHAS11 has learned the children are staying with Crampton at this New Albany apartment.
Vanwormer is out of jail and didn't answer at her house in New Salisbury.
A house where a call for help about an overflowing toilet from two children left alone is now a felony investigation.
“Can you please contact my Mom because the toilet is broken and it's really flooding and its leaking out everywhere.”
