(WHAS 11)--Indiana lawmakers are trying to finish a final version of their school safety plan before Monday.

The measure no longer calls for arming volunteer teachers, principals, and parents.  But negotiators are still trying to hammer out details on the duties of school resource officers, trained police who will oversee safety programs in schools.

One legislator urged her colleagues to make sure the bill also has a mental health component to head off troubled kids who might become mass shooters.
