COLUMBUS, Ind. (AP) -- A south-central Indiana man has been sentenced to 9 1/2 years in prison after pleading guilty to beating his pregnant girlfriend and holding a knife to her throat.
Daniels S. Leonard was sentenced Monday by a Bartholomew County judge who accepted the 28-year-old Columbus man's guilty pleas to criminal confinement, battery to a pregnant woman and several other charges.
The Republic reports (http://bit.ly/Y5wYMM ) the judge who sentenced Leonard noted his criminal history, repeated probation violations and the nature of the crimes.
Court documents state that Leonard repeatedly beat his girlfriend over a 26-hour period in December 2011 and threatened to kill her and her 7-year-old son.
Those attacks included holding a knife to her throat in a car after he became enraged because he could not find his cellphone.
