LEBANON, Ind. (WHAS11) -- A big payday for one Indiana family after they found documents inside a dusty barn.
In the corner of an old barn in Lebanon, Ind. Mike Ranney found savings bonds dating back to the 1970s. It turns out that the documents were stolen in the ‘80s.
The find was 15 years ago. Since then, Ranney and his wife have been trying to find the person they belonged to and they finally found the children of Harold Hastings, the man listed on the bonds.
His kids knew about them but thought they'd never be recovered. The bonds now have a value of $70,000.
It's still not known exactly how the bonds got into the barn. The person who stole them from Hastings' safe was never found.
