INDIANAPOLIS (WHAS11) -- Democrats in Indianapolis are calling it a power grab.
A bill supported by Governor Mike Pence would strip the state school superintendent of some of her powers.
The superintendent, Glenda Ritz, is the only Democrat to hold a statewide office. The House Education Committee has voted to remove her management of the school voucher system.
The committee also voted that union dues from teachers can no longer be an automatic payroll deduction. The teacher's union strongly supported Ritz's election.
Ritz says she deserves the same powers her predecessors had.
