BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WHAS11) – Graduation day for the class of 2013 marked a bittersweet ending for some at Indiana University and for others, a huge void.

Lauren Spierer went missing in June 2011 after a night of partying with her friends.

IU president Michael McRobbie talked about the ordeal Spierer’s classmates, friends and family have been through at Saturday’s ceremony.

“We know that Lauren’s disappearance has been a terrible and unimaginable strain for her family and for many of you who knew her as a classmate and as a friend,” McRobbie said. “Her disappearance also has deeply affected the entire Indiana University community and the Bloomington community.”

Spierer’s disappearance remains unsolved.

Volunteers recently put up new posters and billboards in Bloomington urging someone to come forward with information to help find Lauren before her class graduates and leaves Bloomington.
