KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (WHAS11) -- A Vincennes, Ind. man was hospitalized overnight after a head-on collision in Knox County.
According to a news release, 22-year-old Cameron Gillingham was driving at a high rate of speed, heading north on Lower Fort Knox Road when his 2003 Pontiac left the roadway and hit a tree head-on.
Police said a female passenger was able to get of out the car and go for help. Gillingham was extricated from the car and was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes with serious injuries.
Gillingham was later airlifted to St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville due to a serious head injury.
Police said the did find open alcohol containers in the car and a container of prescription pills in Gillingham's pocket that did not belong to him. Police also said they believe the pills and alcohol may have contributed to the accident.
The female passenger was not injured.
