JEFFERSONVILLE,Ind. (WHAS11) -- Jeffersonville Police are investigating after skeletal remains were found in a wooded area off Allison Lane near Lutz Lane.
A woman at the church told WHAS11 the groundskeeper went to cut the grass and noticed a pair of pants, upon looking further he discovered the bones and called police.
“It's something that would remain unseen during a different time of the year, with the leaves and everything and with the growth,” Detective Todd Hollis said.
“It was shocking to hear about the bone remains, especially behind a church,” Donna Kriner a neighbor said.
“We have nothing, at this point, that can assure that this is a criminal matter or not. We just have remains,” Hollis said.
An anthropologist did confirm the bones are human. Police do not yet know how long they have been there or who they belong to. They are hoping experts can determine age, race and gender. Police also say they will be closely looking at missing persons reports to try to identify who this could be.
