NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (AP) -- The explosion of a large gas grill at a central Indiana church has killed one person.

Noblesville Police Lt. Bruce Barnes says the explosion at Grace Community Church was felt by others preparing for a men's ministry event Monday evening but only the one person was killed.

Barnes told a news conference at the church that the victim's name wasn't being released immediately.

Senior Pastor Dave Rodriguez says the victim was a male member of the church who was operating the grill when it exploded. He described the grill as a larger unit than those typically found at homes.

Rodriguez says about 400 men were expected to attend the event that was canceled after the explosion.

The church is located about 15 miles north of Indianapolis.
