FLOYD COUNTY, Ind. (WHAS11) -- Each year 7.6 million people die from cancer worldwide, that’s according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

And many of those deaths can be prevented.

On Friday, June 21, the Floyd Memorial Cancer Center of Indiana hosted a cancer survivors reunion in New Albany.

All patients, survivors and their loved ones were invited to attend the fun filled carnival themed event.

For those who attended the festivities it meant a lot to catch up with old friends and meet new ones.

"For a while this was my home half the time. Everyone was nice and treated me well I’m glad this did this see people that I haven't seen in a while," Lisa Anderson, a cancer survivor, said.

The event had entertainment of all kinds for every age. From carnival style food booths, an old-fashioned photo booth, balloon animals, magic shows, therapeutic massages and much more.

The event was free and lasted for two and a half hours.
