FLOYD COUNTY, Ind. (WHAS11) – Floyd County Police are investigating near the 116 mile marker of Interstate 64 after a man was struck and killed Tuesday night.

The accident happened around 9:30 p.m.

Floyd County Sheriff Darrell Mills said 20-year-old Andrew Fischer ran off the road into an embankment. Fischer hiked out of the embankment to flag someone down and onto I-64 near Georgetown - that's when police said they believe he was struck by a car.

Fischer was pronounced dead at the scene.

Mills said the driver of the car that hit Fischer did stop and talked with investigators. No charges are expected against the driver.

It is not clear at this time what caused the Fischer to veer off the interstate.
